0.5 Research Methodology

The current study is mainly a qualitative and evaluative one.The methods adopted are mainly literature analysis and interpretation.As criticism of literary translation is closely connected with one's views on translation and especially literary translation,the authors will first give a survey of definitions of translation and literary translation.A review of the practice and theoretical study of criticism of literary translation is then given to find out what is the current situation of criticism of literary translation in China and in the West.To get a clear picture of the previous studies on criticism of literary translation,the authors adopt a paradigmatic approach in light of paradigm theory and system theory.They then introduce some theories of axiology which offer the theoretical foundation for investigating into the nature,objectives,different types,principles,criteria and the methods of criticism of literary translation,giving a detailed analysis of some of the main factors and issues involved in the study of criticism of literary translation.In order to know the research object more clearly,they will use both the method of description and that of comparison.In brief,to fulfill the objectives stated in section 0.3,the authors will adopt methods such as description,inductive reasoning,and comparison and dialectic analyses of the relevant documents.The nature of this study therefore will be descriptive,explanatory,explorative,and theoretical in general,with a bright tinge of meta-criticism,featured by concept interpreting and evaluating as often is in the field of humanities.
